if I even went near a microwave can I have cancer?

Hi friends, When I was younger my dad had a family friend and his wife would yell at me horribly if I even went near a microwave. I would be looking at it and she would tell me to get away from it so I would go away for a few minutes and go back and she would practically swat me and call me stupid, she said that it causes cancer.
